Establishing A Strong Faith

“People die for what they believe in.”

Cliché it may be, but there is a truth in this statement. Not only once did we hear news from many places around the world when a man of faith actually committed a crime just to protect his beliefs from non-believers. I could sell my house fast in Orlando, FL just to help with their advocacy in raising awareness for faith. This is not only true now but has a history which can be traced from many centuries prior. Isn’t it that crusades were even done back in those days just so the Catholic faith could be re-established and to protect them from those who are seeking to abolish it permanently?

The point is, faith can be strong enough to be a motivation for big changes. But why is it that there are people whose faith has the tendency to weaken over time? What causes this, and how can this be prevented?

There are many reasons why the strength of faith of people change as times pass by. One strong catalyst is unfortunate events which significantly impact the life of the believer. Especially if these events caused unexpected death or hardship, people look for the one they can blame. It’s just too bad that their faith and the patrons they believe in are often what they see in their way. They often blame them for not being able to produce an intervention to prevent such things from happening. Because of this, their hold to faith loosens.

Another reason may be the practice they observe from the spiritual leaders they trust. This may them confuse because the people they trust and look up to guide them in strengthening their faith are the people who do not practice what they preach. In this case, an individual may slowly drift apart which in turn causes them to lose faith.

Faith is hard to sustain. It requires utmost discipline, perseverance, blind trust, and also steady reinforcement to make it work. But it doesn’t mean that it is impossible. In fact, it is just as doable as anything you put your mind into. There are many ways to restore and strengthen your faith, and some examples are included below:

  1. Re-read the scriptures which made you feel the miracles in the first place. Re-learning the teachings you acquired before should be the key. Do not simply rely on people, rely on your belief. Remember, even leaders are just human beings who suffer from weaknesses from time to time.
  1. Talk to the same people who have the same belief as you. Find those whom you trust inside your church and do not be scared to let them know the problem. Let their advice empower you and your faith.
  1. Find time to soul search. A new environment can bring you to the new perspective you need. Go away if needed, clear your mind. If possible, undergo a pilgrimage to provide yourself with a better understanding
  1. Accept things you cannot change. It is hard sometimes but acceptance is what will bring you forward to a new beginning and would stop you from blaming other on the unfortunate things that happened to you.

The journey will never be easy. But with hard work, restoring and strengthening your faith is not impossible.
